About Myself

Hi, my name is Ayelet Fisher and I own a studio specializing in designing spaces for public and private institutions such as schools, kindergartens, play centers, preschool complexes, etc.

However, this was not always the case and I started my professional career in a completely different field. Originally, I have a bachelor’s degree in law and, like any graduate, I followed the normative path. Immediately after my studies, I joined one of the big firms and worked in a variety of positions in the field. In such a large office, my professional future seemed written and secure, but I gradually began to feel that despite my professional success, my place was not there. I felt the need for a change and with a master’s degree in business administration, I entered the worlds of project management. But unfortunately, I did not feel that I had found my vocation even in these worlds, and I decided to go for another change and replace the black and white that characterizes the worlds of law and business with the color palette of the world of design.

I came into the field of designing educational environments almost by accident and with a lot of luck. Following a donation to HaYarden School, in HaTikva neighborhood, in Tel Aviv, the school where mainly foreign and underprivileged children are educated, I was invited to plan and design the public spaces. The project was done voluntarily, and I entered it out of a sense of mission and love. Most of the children educated at HaYarden School are coping with complex lives and school is for them a significant anchor of security, almost like a second home, at times a first home. Therefore, it was important to me to create a place that is happy and accepting, where they can feel safe. For weeks I studied, researched, invested all my efforts in reading materials, conversations with professionals, and based on the educational insights I had gained from the process, I started to design the space, while thinking about the children, the teachers and the relationship between them and the space.

The project proved to me that an educational environment designed with purpose and sensitivity can impact how the children experience the place where they spend a significant portion of their lives, by using color, creativity and a lot of love.

The renovation at HaYarden School received impressive exposure in the professional press in Israel and abroad and I found the sense of vocation I was looking for. Following this project, I established my studio and continued to explore the relationship between design and education. Based on my insights from the project at HaYarden School and other projects, I gradually developed a structured methodological process on the basis of which I deign schools, kindergartens, play centers, public buildings and any space intended for providing pedagogical and emotional needs.

According to my design concept, interior design and architecture need to be abstract, dynamic and accessible, in order to allow the children to use the space in many different ways, which develops creative thinking and allows the imagination to soar. I chose to focus on the field of education and I design all the various aspects of spaces for preschoolers, children and youth. The field fascinated me because, in my eyes, there is no more exciting and empowering occupation, and there is no greater sense of satisfaction than creating an environment that will excite, intrigue, develop and advance the children.

Children differ from one another – each child is a unique world, and so are the educational institutions and pedagogical teams that operate them. Therefore, the spaces I have designed differ from each other.

I plan and design spaces for Public and privete institutions at different budget levels, but it is always important to me to design environments that are pleasant, inviting and fun, that stimulate the imagination, evoke curiosity, encourage paly, learning and creativity, and strengthen the children’s motivation and sense of independence.

I brought with me to the field of design the meticulousness and attention to small details that characterize the world of law and business in which I previously lived. Before planning, there is an in-depth characterization process in cooperation with the pedagogical teams, in which we meticulously analyze the space, the goals it is going to serve, and the expectations of all those involved in the process are coordinated. This is an in-depth learning process formulated and perfected over the years, and in my opinion, necessary for reaching the perfect balance between the pedagogical and functional needs and the design vision of the project. I believe in providing close and professional support from the planning stage to the execution stage.
